Care and Maintenance

Granite is extremely hard and durable and is almost impossible to scratch. It is heat resistant and will not burn. It will remain shiny and beautiful with virtually no maintenance. Your granite counter has been sealed with a heavy-duty high quality impregnator that decreases the surface permeability while still allowing the stone to breathe. The impregnator is solvent-based sealer that provides “natural look” stain protection and protects against tough oil and water-based stains.

The manufacturer recommends resealing the surface every 1 to 3 years for interior applications. We recommend resealing around the sink and stove areas more frequently with a high quality solvent-sealer. Cleaning and sealing care products are available in the Bozeman area and cane be purchased through Bozeman Marble & Granite. Follow the directions of the manufacturer.

Granite countertops are very acid resistant. However, you should avoid contacting the surface with hot oils or very hot pots and pans. Even room temperature oils will penetrate the surface over time and thus should not be left in contact with surface for long periods.

The surface should be cleaned with mild water and soap (such as Ivory). You can use glass cleaning products (such as Windex or soft scrub) to maintain surface shine. You can also use steel wool to clean up hard materials that may be on the surface.

Marble, travertine and limestone are a calcium carbonate base material. No products containing Calcium dissolving chemicals or acidic in nature should be used to clean carbonate base stone surfaces (such as “CLR” or vinegar).
